Minimum age to volunteer: 16 (those who are 18+ must complete a Vulnerable Sector Check upon offer of a position)

Spiral Garden is an integrated outdoor art, garden and play program that brings together children ages 6 to 18 with and without disabilities to:

  • Explore self and collective expression through a variety of art media
  • Nurture our relationship to nature through tending our organic garden
  • Foster an inclusive community that gives attention to the whole person.

Volunteers assist participants with a variety of creative arts activities in an integrated setting. The majority of activities take place outdoors during what can be sunny, hot, humid, rainy summer days.

Volunteers play an integral part of the Spiral Garden community primarily performing one or two roles throughout a session;  supporting individual clients as one to one’s or supporting a Professional Artist in engaging participants in an art area (eg. Puppetry, Clay, Painting, Woodworking etc.). Volunteers also play an essential part in the care required to keep the site a safe and beautiful place to be throughout the summer. They work together as a team in setting up, cleaning up alongside and under the supervision of the Coordinators and Program staff.

Schedule

Spiral Garden runs four, two week (full-day) sessions in July and August. Specific schedule varies year to year.

The minimum commitment for volunteers is one, two week session that run Monday to Friday (excluding holiday Mondays) from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.  One two week session is approximately 80 hours of volunteer service.
