Following a concussion diagnosis we offer services to support recovery.

As of April 26, 2024, the Early Concussion Care program will no longer be accepting referrals. We are working to enhance our concussion services to combine the strengths of both the Early Concussion Care program and the Persistent Symptoms Concussion Clinic.

Holland Bloorview’s Early Concussion Care program was established to address an important gap in care for children and youth who experience concussion. Since the program launched in 2015, many supports and resources in the community for early concussion care have become available and are widely accessed by children, youth and families.

In an effort to increase our capacity to care for more children with persistent concussion symptoms, we are closing our Early Concussion Care program and developing an enhanced approach to concussion care. Our phased approach to this program redesign will roll out over the next few months, and we will share details as they become available.

We continue to accept referrals to our Persistent Symptoms Concussion Clinic. Educational resources that we share with families referred to our Early Concussion Care program can be found here.

For eight years, this outpatient program provided concussion services to children and youth (21 years and under) within four weeks of injury. Thanks to the generosity of our funders and community and corporate partners, this support continues to have a direct impact on advancing pediatric concussion care, research, education and awareness, enabling children and youth to get back to the activities that they need, want and love to do.

Persistent concussion services

The Persistent Symptoms Concussion Clinic is accepting new referrals. Referrals will be placed on a waitlist in priority sequence.

For children and youth (18 years and under) with concussion symptoms that continue for greater than 4 weeks after injury, and who continue to have difficulty participating in school and physical activity, a referral may be made to outpatient persistent concussion services. Depending on a child or youth's needs, appointments may be with a physician, a neuropsychologist, an occupational therapist, a physiotherapist, and/or a social worker. Services provided by this clinical team are covered by OHIP.
