The Canada Research Chairs (CRC) program offers Canadian universities the opportunity to nominate researchers for professorships in areas that will further the institution’s overall strategic plan. Each university receives a set number of chair allocations proportional to the amount of funding the institution has received from the Tri-Council (CIHR, NSERC, SSHRC) and nominates a researcher for each chair allocation.

The University of Toronto’s Canada Research Chair (CRC) program is administered by the University in partnership with nine affiliated hospitals in the Toronto Academic Health Sciences Network (TASHN). This website page complements the information provided on the University’s website and provides information specific to Holland Bloorview, including postings for available CRC opportunities at Holland Bloorview's research institute.

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

Holland Bloorview has developed a complimentary Action Plan to ensure Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Practices and CRC guidelines for ensuring a fair and transparent recruitment and nomination process are in place.

There are a number of mechanisms at U of T to address concerns related to equity and diversity depending on the issue, and one’s position at U of T and/or affiliated hospital (i.e. faculty, staff or student). Concerns or questions sent to the Office of the Vice-President, Research and Innovation at will be reviewed and directed to the appropriate individual. 

Holland Bloorview CRC opportunities

The University of Toronto is responsible for administering and managing the CRC program through the office of the Vice-President, Research and Innovation. As an affiliated hospital, Holland Bloorview currently holds two Canada Research Chairs. The oversight of the CRC Program, including recruitment and allocation of Chairs at Holland Bloorview resides in the portfolio of the VP Research. Allocations are determined by the hospital’s strategic research priorities and requirements. Hospital nominations are reviewed by a university committee to ensure eligibility and broad scientific merit.

For each CRC opportunity at Holland Bloorview, the VP Research will establish a Selection Committee that meets CRC’s guidelines and will openly advertise the position. The Committee will review candidates against established criteria based closely on CRC’s evaluation criteria and make recommendations to the VP Research, who will make the final decision in collaboration with the University.
