Music

Welcome to music therapy services!  Music therapists promote health and wellbeing through musical play, skill building, and exploration. 

We offer a range of services including individual therapy, adapted music education, and a variety of group music therapy experiences. Groups provide an opportunity to build friendships, connection, and community. 

Through music, clients can creatively express build social awareness together in a fun and motivating environment.

Winter: January 14 – March 25 (9 weeks)

(make-up sessions scheduled March 28-April 1, as needed)

Spring: April 15 – June 17 (9 weeks + Recital on June 24)

(make-up sessions scheduled June 20-24, as needed)

Note: There are no sessions February 18th(Family Day), March 11-17th (March Break) or May 20-22nd (Victoria Day)


Summer: July 7- August 25 (6 weeks)

PLEASE NOTE: For Summer 2023, we are only able to offer 1:1 Adapted Music Education or Music Therapy at a very limited capactiy. Availability for 30 min lessons is limited to Tuesdays or Thursdays 3:00-8:00

Individual Music Therapy

The individual music therapy program offers customized sessions focused on social, communication, and psychosocial skills.  Both in-person and virtual sessions are available.

30-minute time slots Monday to Saturday.

Days/times by request and determined by therapist availability. 

Age: 0-18

Summer Cost: $360 (6 weeks)

Adapted Music Education 

Learn to play an instrument! Choose from a variety of traditional and adapted instruments and innovative music technology. Instruments include: the Virtual Musical Instrument (VMI)*, piano, guitar, voice, violin, percussion and ukulele.  Both in-person and virtual sessions are available.

*The VMI is music software developed at Holland Bloorview. The program allows users to see themselves on a TV screen with colourful shapes and objects. When the user creates movement through the shapes on the screen, music is produced!

30-minute time slots Monday to Saturday.

Days/times by request and determined by therapist availability.

Age: 4-18

Summer Cost: $260 (6 weeks)

Group Music Therapy

Our groups provide an exciting and fun way to make friends, develop music skills, learn about oneself, and communicate with others through music.  We have a range of groups for different ages and needs:

Music Together® within therapy group*

This integrated group is designed for young children, siblings and their parents to help children with special needs communicate, improve focus, self-control and interact with family members and peers in a safe and rewarding music therapy setting.  The program fee includes a course book to guide families with how music and movement can promote health. Both in-person and virtual sessions are available.

Saturdays: 10:00-10:45am (virtual only)

Wednesdays: 10:00-10:45am 

Age: 3-7

Rise & Shine Preschooler Music Therapy Group

This group provides an encouraging and fun music therapy environment for young children to learn how to play with others and to practice transitioning from one task to another.  In this fun and motivating environment, parents and caregivers will music with their child and celebrate moments of independence!

Wednesdays 9:00-9:45 am 

Saturdays 9:00-9:45 am 

Age: 3-7

Accentuate the Positive

In this group, clients build communication skills and self-awareness in a structured, positive music therapy environment.  Our therapists use music in a purposeful and engaging way to accentuate and develop each client’s abilities.

Ages 7-12:

  • Wednesdays 5:15-6:00 pm
  • Saturdays 10:00-10:45 pm 

Ages 13-18:

  • Wednesdays 6:15-7:00 pm
  • Saturdays 11:00-11:45 am

Holland Bloorview Rocks!

We are offering kids the opportunity to play in a rock band to enjoy music and provide an opportunity to perform on stage!   Kids will work with music therapists and volunteers to select and rehearse songs.  The program finishes off with an all-out rock concert with special guests and performers and fans.  If you are new to the program, you will be asked to come in for an orientation visit to get to know our potential rock band members and to ensure this is an enjoyable and successful experience for all!

Program only offered during the Fall season.

Holland Bloorview Glee

In this music therapy group clients develop vocal skills, explore creative self-expression, and build social skills through singing and movement using popular music and musical theatre repertoire.  The last session of each term is open to client families for a demonstration of work accomplished.

Age: 7-18

Tuesdays 7:15-8:00 pm

Saturdays 11:00-11:45 am
