Recruiting and hiring inclusively

Holland Bloorview is committed to fostering a climate of inclusion, diversity, equity accessibility and anti-racism (IDEAA). We welcome and respect the diversity of all members of our community and we seek to create an inclusive culture for our scientists, staff, participants, trainees and volunteers. To help in our journey towards fully reflecting the communities we partner with, we welcome and encourage applications from Black individuals and other racialized persons, Indigenous Peoples, women, persons with disabilities, LGBTQI2SA+ persons and others who may contribute to further diversification of ideas within our community. Holland Bloorview is committed to fair assessment of a candidate's abilities, and consideration for diversity of thought, method and experience, including non-traditional career paths.

Holland Bloorview has a strategic commitment to build an inclusive, diverse, equitable, accessible and anti-racist environment that treats all individuals with respect and fairness. We will elevate the diversity of voices amongst teams and have representation across leadership, staff, learners and volunteers from historically marginalized populations including Black, Indigenous and people with disabilities.

In support of this strategic commitment, we have embedded inclusive recruitment best practices throughout our recruitment and selection process, including:

  • expanding our recruitment pipelines by widely sharing our job opportunities to a diversity of job boards and community networks to broaden our reach;
  • providing ongoing unconscious bias in recruitment training and inclusive recruitment materials to hiring managers and interview panelists to support a more inclusive recruitment process;
  • reviewing and adapting our job postings and recruitment process to focus on essential requirements to reduce barriers; and
  • ensuring all candidates have awareness of and access to accessibility and accommodation supports during the recruitment process.

We are also working to address barriers experienced by marginalized groups in the recruitment process by developing data-driven recruitment tools to allow for a more equitable and inclusive recruitment process.

Voluntary and anonymous applicant sociodemographic survey

As part of our commitment to creating a team that reflects the diversity of our community, we invite all job applicants to participate in a voluntary and anonymous sociodemographic survey to help identify and remove barriers that may be impacting employment opportunities of historically underrepresented equity priority groups.

Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital is committed to developing an anti-oppressive, anti-racist and barrier-free work environment where all can have equal opportunities to fully contribute, participate and grow.

As part of this commitment, we are inviting all applicants to complete a short, optional, anonymous, and confidential sociodemographic survey. Applicants will be asked to voluntarily self-identify in relation to groups that have historically faced, and continue to face, barriers in employment, including: Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, or Inuit) peoples; persons belonging to racialized communities; persons with disabilities; women; and members of marginalized sexual orientation and gender identity communities.

A frequently asked questions (FAQ) document about this optional survey can be viewed here.
