Cardinal Health is issuing a safety notice regarding Kangaroo Enteral Feed Pump products due to the potential for air appearing in the enteral feed pump set tubing during set-up. Air entry in the tubing may result in result in vomiting, dehydration, hypoglycemia, abdominal pain and abdominal distention in patients.
If air gaps are greater than 2.5 centimeters (1 inch), please discard the feeding set and replace it with a new one. The replacement can be from the same lot.
Holland Bloorview’s nursing team played an instrumental role in impacting safety beyond the hospital by identifying the possibility of defective products, and collecting and submitting evidence to escalate concerns to Cardinal Health.
