Holland Bloorview ranks as one of Greater Toronto’s Top Employers

Hospital included on list for eleventh year

Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital has been named one of Greater Toronto’s Top Employers for the eleventh consecutive year. A few reasons for its recognition are its employee-driven No Boundaries innovation fund, the mental health support it has offered staff throughout the pandemic and its celebration of employees.

“It’s a source of great pride for me to have been included on this list for the eleventh consecutive year. I see it, experience it and live it every day, and it’s gratifying to be acknowledged as one of the best places of employment year-over-year,” says Julia Hanigsberg, president and CEO. “The care we provide our clients is of the highest level, and the workplace culture we cultivate allows that to happen. We value and understand the importance of inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility, and know we are at our best because we prioritize them. This award is a tribute to all of our outstanding team members.”

With about 1,000 employees, Holland Bloorview creates a world of possibility for kids with disabilities and medical complexity. The organization provides compassionate care and services, carries out leading edge research and trains the next generation of doctors, nurses, therapists and those in other health disciplines.

Further, the hospital supports the wellness, professional and personal growth of employees via education and development, awards and recognition, enhanced benefits and compensation packages, and fitness and wellness programming. Among them this year:

  • The No Boundaries fund, which enables staff to receive up to $5,000 in seed funding for unique, innovation-driven projects.
  • Pandemic mental health support, including resources around mindful self-compassion and coping with stress, as well as Schwartz Rounds, sessions that promote the psychological and emotional well-being of staff.
  • The Spotlight Awards give employees, clients and families the opportunity to nominate staff who exhibit one of Holland Bloorview’s five core values—courage and resilience, compassion, excellence, equity and innovation. The contributions of longstanding employees are also acknowledged through the Salute and Celebrate service recognition program and the newly-launched STAR awards, which honour clinicians.

“It’s essential that the care our staff delivers to clients is of the highest quality and safety, and that can only happen when our staff feels supported and enabled to reach their full potential and bring their whole selves to work,” says Tracey Millar, chief people and culture officer. “Our continued inclusion on the list of Greater Toronto’s Top Employers shows that we’re achieving our goal of giving our teams what they need to succeed.”
