To better serve our clients and families, Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital's Dental Services expanded their scope of service to include general anesthesia.

The general anesthesia service is available for select procedures for qualifying clients, including those who have anxiety, behavior management issues, cognitive impairment or are in need of extensive dental procedures. The service will be provided by qualified teams of pediatric medical anesthesiologists, registered nurses, pediatric dentists, oral and maxillofacial surgeons and prosthodontists.

“By offering general anesthesia, we provide better access to services and improved quality of care for our clients and families,” said Dr. Robert Carmichael, Chief of Dental Services. “This new service helps us meet an even broader range of needs for our clients and families, provide excellent coordination of care and offer the convenience of receiving services in one location.”

Holland Bloorview’s dental specialists provide services to children and young adults with complex medical needs in two areas in Dental Services: the Ontario Cleft Lip and Palate/Craniofacial Dental Program and General Pediatric Dentistry. A full range of services are provided within the two programs, including cleanings, whitening, fillings, crowns and bridges, orthodontic braces, replacement of missing teeth, minor jaw surgery and digital x-rays.

Dental services are also offered to siblings of clients.

Clients and families can learn more about Dental Services and the general anesthesia service by picking up a brochure while onsite at the hospital (available in the second floor waiting areas or at Dental Services reception) or visiting www.hollandbloorview.ca/dentalservices.
