Emily Chan

Social worker, Urgent Response Service

Emily works with children and families with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) to offer services designed to prevent risk escalation to self and others. She provides individual counselling sessions to address topics including caregiver burnout, child and youth anxiety and depression and stress management. She approaches all her interactions using a client-and-family centered and strength-based approach. 

She completed her Bachelor of Science and Master of Social Work degrees at the University of Toronto. Emily has training in narrative therapy, cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT).

As a passionate advocate for disability rights, Emily has lent her lived experience as a person with a disability, as well as learned knowledge, to several disability justice and health equity organizations. She is an active participant on many community committees including the Holland Bloorview Youth Advisory Council, the Young Canadians Roundtable on Health and the Muscular Dystrophy Accessibility Advisory Committee. Emily also participates in public speaking events such as the Easter Seals Community Conference.
