A systematic review of the benefits of hiring people with disabilities (2018)

Bloorview Research Institute Senior Scientist Dr. Sally Lindsay, with a team of researchers, conducted a literature review from 1997–2017, ultimately analyzing 39 studies that reported on benefits employers experienced as a result of hiring individuals with disability. The review pointed to improvements in profitability, competitive advantage, and a more inclusive workplace culture.

Building the business case for hiring people with disabilities: A financial cost-business analysis methodology and example (2021)

This article is useful for employers who want to build a business case for hiring people with disabilities. The authors contrast service costs (e.g., pay, vacation, benefits) to service value estimates based on wages and adjusted to performance levels. In their application to a national food services company, authors found that employees with disabilities provided higher net value to the company based on their average to above-average performance and low turnover rates.
