Happy volunteer week to all our amazing volunteers

This year, April 6 to April 12 marks a very special week. A week that is dedicated to paying tribute to millions of Canadian volunteers who devote their time and energy to others. The purpose of National Volunteer week is not only to thank current volunteers but to encourage more people to volunteer by emphasizing the accomplishments and pleasures that volunteers achieve.

At Holland Bloorview, the spirit of volunteerism runs high; with approximately 1000 active volunteers who contribute over 50,000 hours annually. Volunteers are active 7 days a week from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Volunteers range in age from 15-92 years of age and in addition to English, they speak 60 different languages. They are a cherished addition to the staff and help enhance the services offered.

Currently, volunteers are able to provide help to various programs:

  • Aquatics
  • Centre for the Arts
  • Family Leaders
  • March Break and Summer Camp programs
  • Reception (greeting and assisting clients and families who have arrived for clinical appointments)
  • School
  • Therapeutic Playroom
  • Therapeutic Recreation (i.e. Pet visiting, swimming, outings, sensory play, games, arts and crafts and baking)

This year, on Wednesday, April 9 at Holland Bloorview, we will honour all of our volunteers for their support, service and dedication at the Volunteer Appreciation Event.

We are grateful for the dedication of our volunteers and community to make it possible for Holland Bloorview to continue to grow and create a world of possibility for children, youth and their families. Please take the time this week to show your gratitude to our volunteers for all their hard work, dedication and commitment!

If you are interested in volunteering with us we would love to hear from you.
