Early Learning and Development - Infant Development Service

Our Early Childhood Educator (ECE) home visiting consultants support families in being active participants in their child’s care and development.

Les services de dévelopement des enfants sont offerts en français par le Centre francophone de Toronto. Pour plus d’informations, contactez le Centre francophone de Toronto au 416 922 2672, poste 274.

Our philosophy

  • We recognize that infancy and early childhood are crucial periods in the healthy development of an individual.
  • We are committed to family-centred care and demonstrate this in our respect for and recognition of families to be active participants in our service delivery.

Who we serve

  • children from birth to age five;
  • identified as having an established risk of developmental delay and disabilities – including physical, neurological and prematurity;
  • children living in Toronto region (postal code starting with ‘M’);
  • children not attending child care, kindergarten or Entry to School (OAP) or receiving any other Infant and Child Development home visiting service.

What to expect from our service:

  • Initial family intake screening call for detailed information about the service, pathway of service based on child’s age, and family agreement to participate in the service.
  • Family Service Plan, developed in collaboration with the home visiting consultant, that identifies priority family goals for their time in the service.
  • Play and routine-based intervention recommendations using home and community resources to support a family’s best hopes for their child’s development.
  • Coaching from the ECE in real time as a family tries new ways to play, communicate and/or interact with their child.
  • Sharing information with a family related to child development using screening tools (i.e., ASQ, Looksee checklist).
  • Help accessing information about additional community resources and supports identified by the family as important.
  • Advocacy for and with a family in their relationship with health, social and community services.
