The Meaning of Health and Wellness in Adolescents and Youth with Physical Disabilities

Summary

We want to explore what health and wellness means to young people with physical disabilities and what health activities are important in their everyday lives. We want to hear about what sort of things you do or want to do to be healthy and feel good.

Call to action

Are you a young person with a physical disability between 10-24 years of age? Would you like to talk about what health and wellness means to you, and what health goals are important to you? Consider taking part in our study!

Who can participate

  • Young people with a physical disability between 10 – 24 years of age
  • Able to communicate in English and take part in a conversation
  • Have home internet connection
  • Have access to a camera (or cellphone with an inbuilt camera)

What's involved

During the study, you will be asked to use your own digital camera (or cellphone camera) and take 3-4 photos per week for 2 weeks that reflect or show what health and wellness means to you. Once you have taken all of your photographs, you will select 4-6 photographs to share with us during a 45 min-1 hour interview that will take place online using a free, secure meeting program. During the interview, we will ask you why you took each photo and what it says about your feelings of health and wellness.

The study will take about 2 weeks of your time, and you will not be required to travel to Holland Bloorview to participate.

Participants can also receive volunteer hours.
