Enhancing health outcomes through data optimization and EHR innovation

Holland Bloorview recognized by The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society

Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital (Holland Bloorview) achieved a significant milestone in its pursuit to optimize the power of data and the use of its Meditech Expanse electronic health record (EHR) system to better support the families it serves. On March 8, we received two internationally-recognized Level 6 validations from the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS). This achievement enables Holland Bloorview to meet the evolving and complex physical, mental, developmental, behavioural and psychosocial needs of children and youth with disabilities.

These two areas of recognition include the HIMSS Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM) and the HIMSS Adoption Model for Analytics Maturity (AMAM). EMRAM measures clinical outcomes, patient engagement and clinician use of EHR technology, and AMAM measures the analytics capabilities of a health care organization.

“Holland Bloorview’s successful attainment of both HIMSS Level 6 EMRAM and AMAM validations is a testament to our commitment to improving health care outcomes through data,” says Pakizah Kozak, chief information officer, information management & technology, Holland Bloorview. “Our strategic use of technology and analytics, underpinned by teamwork and close collaboration between clinicians and our information management and technology team (IMT), is one we are proud of. The collective efforts, talent, skills and perspectives of the team have led to this achievement.”

Holland Bloorview is the only Canadian hospital to achieve both these validations in 2024, signifying our hospital’s advanced ability to turn data into actionable insight for children and youth with disabilities and their families. We are one of the select 11 Canadian hospitals with a Level 6 or greater EMRAM score, and one of three select hospitals with a Level 6 or greater AMAM score.
