Confronting anti-Black racism - reflection by Joanne Maxwell
![]() | “Confronting anti-Black racism is an important part of our organizational strategic commitment to build an inclusive, diverse, equitable and anti-racist environment that treats all individuals with respect and fairness. It is our collective responsibility to address and undo historical structures and processes that contribute to the marginalization of Black staff at Holland Bloorview. We have taken important steps to inform actions:
In 2026, as a key next step in our Roadmap, we will be revisiting the Black Staff Experience Survey; reconnecting with Black staff to hear where our internal efforts have made a tangible difference, and also to learn where our staff feel we have more work to do. It is important that we remain open to learning so that we can continue to identify and take meaningful actions to address anti-Black racism and ensure Holland Bloorview is an inclusive and equitable place for Black staff to work, learn and grow.” - Joanne Maxwell, vice president, experience and transformation and social accountability |
