Check out the latest BLOOM

By Louise Kinross

Here is our November issue.

Reasons you may want to read this issue:

1.  In 2016, American scientist Cole Galloway presented at the CP-Net Science + Family Day at Holland Bloorview. We interview him in our cover story as a designer on a new motorized chair that a baby with disabilities controls with a joystick to explore their environment. The product was named one of the best inventions of 2021 by TIME magazine.

2.  One of my favourite quotes from an interview with author Emily Ladau: “It’s really important to recognize that the people who often dominate the conversation around disability are those who communicate verbally, who are often white, who are physically disabled, and who have what society views as acceptable types of disabilities.” (see Trailblazer)

3.  “What delights you about your child?” is a great question for clinicians to ask parents, says Dr. Temple Grandin in a new book she co-authors called Navigating Autism. (see Parent Talk)

Our monthly BLOOM e-letter combines family stories and expert advice on raising children with disabilities; candid interviews with activists, clinicians and researchers; and disability news and new books. Sign up by Dec. 31 and you'll be entered in a draw for some fun prizes! https://bit.ly/3xfj4jc
