Confronting anti-Black racism - reflection by Cherrell Williams
I applaud and fully support the work that Holland Bloorview and other organizations have done and continue to do in support of Anti-Black Racism.
As per Black Health Alliance, Anti-Black Racism is described as policies and practices rooted in Canadian institutions such as education, healthcare, and justice that mirror and reinforce beliefs, attitudes, prejudices, stereotyping and/or discrimination towards people of Black-African descent.
The increase of Black employees in junior roles within the hospital is highly visible and this is a great first step. However, as we continue to look up to role models within our Black society/community I hope that Holland Bloorview will find ways to share any insight that can help us to feel even more inclusive, acknowledge our contributions, and make room to include us as part of the decision-making process. My dream is for an Anti-Racism Holland Bloorview as the hospital maintains its ongoing commitment to erase all racism. - Cherrell Williams, senior executive assistant and governance lead and member of BERG
