Strength in diversity - A reflection by Christina Weldon
A reflection by Christina Weldon, music psychotherapist and co-lead for 2SLGBTQ+ Employee Resource Group
“Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital is a leader in recognizing and respecting how each child is full of beauty, strength, and potential, regardless of their differences. As a former volunteer, student, and now employee for the past 10+ years, it has been important for me to feel that the hospital equally respects and promotes the diversity amongst it's staff members as it does for those we serve. I strongly believe that the more we feel our diversity as staff members is recognized, valued, and encouraged, the more passionate and skilled we will be at ensuring this for all those who come through our doors. My identity as a queer woman shapes what I do and how I do it. The formation of our hospital's 2SLGBTQIA+ Employer Resource Group has been important in showing me that the hospital supports and understands how our identities as staff members influence the work we do, allowing us to be more informed and empathetic helpers.” - Christina Weldon, music psychotherapist and co-lead for 2SLGBTQ+ Employee Resource Group
