Virtual Town Hall: Changes to Family Support Fund

Learn about the new Family Support Fund:

The Family Support Fund is a financial assistance program available to all Holland Bloorview clients and families. The fund covers items and services that help to keep our clients safe, while at the hospital and at home:

  • Medications (not covered by Ontario Health Insurance Plan)
  • Equipment
  • Respite and recreation
  • Food, shelter, clothing and hygienic products

In response to the financial stress caused by COVID-19, Holland Bloorview has doubled funding available through the Family Support Fund. Tune in to this virtual Town Hall to learn about the new funding available to you and your loved one.

To qualify for the Family Support Fund:

  1. Clients must be 18 years old or younger
  2. Clients must have had a clinical appointment at the hospital within two years of submitting an application
  3. A short application form must be completed in full and submitted

This interactive session will include readings from Sue's new book, Birds Eye View: Stories of a Life Lived in Heathcare on topics including perspectives on having a child with a disability, the importance of disclosing diagnosis well and how simple kindnesses can help families heal. 

We will encourage audience members to share experiences and curiosities when it comes to delivering client- and family-centered  care as well as reflections and ideas about building strong relationships with families rooted in our shared humanity.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for Caregivers’ Information Workshop

Details

This workshop will provide family caregivers with information on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and help them determine if this is right for them. CBT is a therapy proven to make positive changes by teaching practical skills and strategies to help manage mental health. CBT is centered around thoughts, emotions and behaviors and participants work to develop coping tools and enhance resiliency.

This workshop will be facilitated by clinicians from the Centre for Addiction for Mental Health (CAMH).

This free yoga class is for family caregivers of all levels of experience. No registration is required and equipment is supplied. A great chance for some self-care and to connect with other caregivers. This hour long class takes place on Thursdays from 10am – 11am in the Centre for the Arts across from the Conference Centre.
