A day of recognition and appreciation

Salute & Celebrate honours the incredible milestones and achievements of people at Holland Bloorview

On May 27, Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital held its annual Salute & Celebrate event – a cherished gathering  honouring the incredible contributions of employees, volunteers, family and youth leaders. The celebration highlighted the dedication, resilience and impact of individuals who have reached significant service milestones and those who received special awards in 2025.

A packed audience gathered to cheer on their colleagues and friends. Included among the honourees were 126 employees celebrating milestones ranging from five years to 45 years, with a collective total of 1,650 years of experience between all of them.

In his opening remarks, president and CEO, Bruce Squires, shared reflections on his early experiences at Holland Bloorview:

Bruce Squires“In my time here so far, I’ve had the privilege of seeing the passion and commitment you bring—across roles, disciplines and teams – working together to dare what’s possible in providing life-changing care and support for children, youth and families here at the hospital and throughout the community.”

This year, six individuals were recognized for 30 years or more of service, with milestones of 30, 35, 40, and for one individual, even 45 years reached. “Thirty-plus years represents a legacy that reflects Holland Bloorview as a place where innovation, leadership and culture come together to create lasting, transformational impact in pediatric health care,” said Squires.

Volunteers, family leaders and youth leaders were also acknowledged for the vital role they play. The honourees included nine client program volunteers, five family leaders and seven youth leaders receiving the Ontario Volunteer Service Award.

During her remarks, Catherine Roche, chair of the board of directors, reaffirmed the board’s commitment to fostering an inclusive workplace. She emphasized the importance of staff well-being, noting:

Catherine Roche“Supporting staff well‑being is essential because a healthy, empowered team is what allows us to support children and families throughout their care journeys.”

The event reflects the hospital’s ongoing commitment to building a healthy, connected and engaged team—one of the top priorities of the HB2030 strategic plan. By creating opportunities for connection, fostering a sense of belonging and celebrating achievements, Holland Bloorview continues to recognize and uplift the people who help advance its mission every day.

To all who were recognized and honoured this year, we ‘salute and celebrate’ you!
