  • Learners will conduct experiments and explore different scientific concepts in a hands-on way.

Junior Program (Ages 6-10) Wednesdays:   April 24 - May 29, 2024; 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.

Designed for learning, engineered for fun! Using the LEGO’s SPIKE Essential kits to encourage hands-on play and learning to make creative problem-solving concrete and tangible, by providing learners with the tools to imagine and invent the future. LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Essential, part of the LEGO® Learning System, is the cross-curricular STEAM solution for elementary education. It engages students in hands-on investigation of STEAM concepts while contributing to literacy, math, and social-emotional development.  This system is an intuitive, inclusive, and highly adaptable hands-on learning system.

What you will learn

  • Learners will use Minifigures, with unique characteristics and personalities, to make problem-solving relatable.
  • Learners will code using Icon- and word-based block code.
  • Learners will use a two-port Hub, motors, light matrix and a colour sensor to bring their solutions to life.

Intermediate Program (Ages 10-14) Sundays: April 21 - June 2, 2024 10:00 am to noon ( NO CLASS MAY 19TH)

Using the LEGO Spike Prime kits, which are part of the LEGO® Learning System, this program is designed for learning, engineered for fun! It includes bright colors, friendly shapes, and a simple coding environment to get learners excited about robotics. As a component of the LEGO® Learning System, as a cross-curricular STEAM solution for elementary education. It engages students in hands-on investigation of STEAM concepts while contributing to literacy, math, and social-emotional development. This system is an intuitive, inclusive, and highly adaptable hands-on learning system.

What you will learn

  • Learners build more advanced robots & explores Scratch
  • Learner have fun with real-world engineering tasks; easy-to-use app; block-based programming to solve challenges.
  • Learners will collaborate in challenges like Maze Runner, Mars Rover, SumoBots and Soccer with partners.

Coding 101(Ages 9-14) Thursdays: April 25 - May 30, 2024 6:00 pm to 7:00pm (THIS CLASS IS VIRTUAL)

Scratch is a programming language and an online community where children can program and share interactive media such as stories, games, and animation with people from all over the world. The primary focus of the Coding program is to address the development of functioning skills (e.g. problem-solving, critical thinking, creativity, focusing attention and remembering instructions). As participants create with Scratch, they learn to think creatively, work collaboratively, and reason systematically. Group participants will create an account with Scratch and can share their creations with family and friends. Through our coding projects, participants will learn to improve their planning and problem-solving skills.

What you will learn

  • Learners will build a two-dimensional game from start to finish.
  • Learners will gain familiarity and understand the basics of using Scratch.
  • Learners will create characters, customize their costumes and create animations.
  • Learners will enhance the game experience by adding special effects, creating backgrounds and adding sound.
