Jennifer Ryan

Jennifer Ryan is a PhD candidate in the Rehabilitation Sciences Institute at the University of Toronto and is co-supervised by Dr. Virginia Wright and Dr. Deryk Beal. She is a physiotherapist at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital where she has worked on the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Team since 2006. Jennifer has participated extensively in research involving children with acquired brain injuries and cerebral palsy first as a clinician and now as a graduate student. Her PhD project is focusing on the feasibility of transcranial direct current stimulation as an adjunct to inpatient physiotherapy for children and youth with acquired brain injury. Jennifer also continues to build on her Masters research that explored the use of motor learning strategies in physiotherapy by exploring motor learning strategies application in occupational therapy and speech language pathology interventions for children with acquired brain injury.  She is now aiming to develop a clinically applicable self-assessment checklist that therapists can use to understand and optimize the extent to which they incorporate motor learning strategies in their interventions.
