President and CEO

Bruce Squires is the president and CEO of Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital.

Bruce is a nationally respected and accomplished senior health-care executive with over 30 years of C-suite experience. Known for his visionary and transformational leadership, as well as a driving passion for child and youth health, Bruce brings a unique combination of experience and accomplishments across a wide breadth of healthcare executive roles. 

For the past six years, Bruce has served as president of McMaster Children’s Hospital and vice president, Women’s & Children’s Health at Hamilton Health Sciences. Prior to that, he spent six years as vice president of people, strategy & performance at CHEO in Ottawa, acting as the executive lead for quality, safety, strategy and people. Bruce has played a pivotal role in supporting these organizations to achieve internationally recognized levels of excellence. 

His career includes 20 years as a senior executive in professional health associations, including the Canadian Medical Association. Deeply committed to system leadership, partnership and transformation, Bruce has held leadership roles at national, provincial, regional, and local levels, including chair of Children’s Healthcare Canada and governing council chair of the Provincial Council on Maternal & Child Health and a member of the Board of the Healthcare Insurance Reciprocal of Canada. 

He is a passionate leader in supporting both hospital philanthropy and national and provincial advocacy. At McMaster Children’s Hospital, Bruce led financial growth and stewardship efforts, securing funding increases of nearly $60 million over the past two fiscal years. 

Additionally, Bruce drove innovative partnerships to advance kids’ health, including the Extensive Needs Service (with Holland Bloorview and CHEO), Keaton’s House children’s hospice and McMaster Children’s Health Research Institute.
