How Mimi gave back on her magical birthday

While her original plans for a Frozen-themed party at a local dance studio were put on hold thanks to the COVID-19 restrictions, four-year-old Mimi kept the Disney magic alive by hosting a ZOOM party with her friends.

While donning an Elsa dress, Mimi was serenaded with birthday greetings around her favourite dessert: a vegan carrot cake.

“Then we cut the cake and dropped off the slices at her friends’ houses so everyone got to enjoy it,” says her mother Rachel.

And while Mimi and her friends could still enjoy some birthday fun, Mimi was also excited to extend that warmth and joy to Holland Bloorview.

By using her party as an ECHOage celebration, Mimi was able to donate monetary gifts to kids and youth with disabilities.

When hosting an ECHOage party, instead of presents, guests are invited to make an online financial gift. The amount can be divided up between Holland Bloorview and the celebrant.

“Mimi used to take swimming lessons at Holland Bloorview when she was younger,” says Rachel.

“That’s when I learned about the incredible things this hospital does to help kids in need. I had the first-hand experience with the hospital, and I am very impressed with the facility, the environment as well as the staff. That’s why I would love to be part of the community.”

Since then, Mimi and family have hosted two ECHOage parties.

“This is such a great idea to contribute to charity organizations while celebrating a loved one’s birthday. It is such a meaningful way to put the money into good use that we hosted two parties through ECHOage.”
