Poonam Puri

Professor of Law at Osgoode Hall, York University & Corporate Director

Poonam Puri is a Professor of Law at Osgoode Hall Law School, York University, a corporate governance consultant and an affiliated scholar at Davies, Ward, Phillips & Vineberg LLP. She is an expert in corporate law, securities law, corporate governance and business strategy.

Poonam Puri is a Full Professor, appointed to Osgoode's faculty in 1997, where she is a three‐time recipient of its Teaching Excellence Award. She holds a Master of Law (LL.M.) from Harvard Law School and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from the University of Toronto, as well as the ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors (a program in which she now teaches).

Poonam has advised public and private companies, pension funds, governments and regulators across Canada and around the world, and she serves on the board of directors of many significant companies and public sector organizations, including Colliers and Propel Holdings.

An inductee of the Order of Ontario and twice recognized as one of Canada’s top 25 most influential lawyers, Poonam is a past recipient of Canada’s Top 40 under 40 award and the 100 Most Powerful Women in Canada award. Most recently, she has received the Institute of Corporate Directors' Fellowship Award, the Governance Professionals of Canada's Peter Dey Governance Achievement Award, the Mundell Medal for legal writing by Ontario’s Attorney General, the Law Society Medal from the Law Society of Ontario, and the Royal Society of Canada’s Yvan Allaire Medal in recognition of her contributions to the governance of public and private organizations.

Poonam is a past chair of the board of directors of Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital, having served on the board from 2016 to 2024.
