You did it! Our Dear Everybody Mask Drive was a phenomenal success.
Over 7000 masks, ear savers and scrub caps have been donated to Holland Bloorview and we are so immensely grateful to our wonderful community. Thank YOU!
Our goal was to be able to provide non-medical masks to our staff, clients and families who are coming and going to and from the hospital, for use when they are in the community and in situations where it is impractical or impossible to practice physical distancing (e.g. grocery shopping, on transit.) Because of your tremendous help, this additional safety measure has been provided in order to protect our vulnerable population of clients, their families, our front-line workers and their loved ones.
Looking for resources on making your own masks?
We are promoting a simple 2-ply, pleated mask design. Along with standard sewing supplies (sewing machine, measuring tape, etc.), you will need:
- Fun, child friendly patterns or dark-coloured polyester fabric for the outside of the mask (this could be substituted with 100% cotton if polyester is not available)
- Light-coloured 100% cotton for the part of the mask that goes against the skin
- Elastic or fabric ties
Please use clean fabric to make your masks. These masks do not replace certified medical masks required for use while in the hospital. Homemade masks are only for protective use when outside of the hospital, as an additional measure of safety.
