Welcome to the FOCUS© Outcome Measure

Welcome to the FOCUS© Outcome Measure

Focus on the Outcomes of Children Under Six (FOCUS©) is a clinical and research tool designed to evaluate change in communicative-participation in preschool children. ‘Communicative participation’ is the child’s communication and interaction in “real world” situations at home, school, or in the community.

Developed by Nancy Thomas-Stonell and her team, the FOCUS is a valid, reliable, responsive treatment outcome measure that captures ‘real world’ changes following speech and language treatment.

The FOCUS-34 version has 34 items and have proven, equal validity and sensitivity to the original FOCUS. Both the FOCUS and FOCUS-34 are available on the CanChild website.
