Drs.’ Beal and Hoffman highlighted in U of T Medicine Dean’s Report

In partnership with the Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital’s Feeding and Swallowing Team and Evidence to Care, Dr. Deryk Beal, clinician scientist, and Dr. Andrea Hoffman, clinician investigator, collaborated to create a new handbook entitled Optimizing Feeding and Swallowing in Children with Physical and Developmental Disabilities: A Practical Guide for Clinicians. It was featured in the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Medicine’s Dean’s Report.

The handbook is a resource for community clinicians who are sole practitioners, or may not see high volumes of feeding and swallowing issues and support a wide range of client needs. It’s designed to highlight key considerations and help guide decision-making during clinical evaluation and management of feeding and swallowing issues in children with physical and developmental disabilities.

Feeding and swallowing challenges affect up to 80 per cent of children with developmental difficulties across Canada. Drs. Beal and Hoffman and their team is proud to build capacity to support the needs of children across the country.
