    Dear Everybody wins IABC Toronto Ovation award

    The Dear Everybody campaign has received the Award of Merit in the category of Non Profit Campaigns from the Toronto Chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC). Holland Bloorview’s innovative anti-stigma campaign sets out to create a world of equality and free of disability stigma.

    This marks the third award Dear Everybody has received in the past year, including an Advocacy Award from Empowered Kids Ontario and a Gold Quill from IABC. The IABC/Toronto OVATION Awards offers the Greater Toronto Area communications profession an opportunity to present its best work.

    Dear Everybody helps to give voice to the experiences of children and youth living with disability with the hope of creating change on a national scale. In Canada, there are more than 400,000 children and youth living with a disability, and the Canadian Human Rights Commission notes disability is the most citied (59 per cent) reason for discrimination by people in Canada. Stigma is all around and takes many forms – staring, whispers, name-calling, social exclusion, bullying and outright discrimination. Young people with disabilities face lower employment prospects on average compared to their able-bodied peers.
