A Wearable Device to Improve Mobility with Lower-Limb Prostheses
Summary
We are developing a wearable system that analyzes walking patterns of lower-limb prostheses users and provides feedback. Once developed, the system could serve as a training tool for lower-limb amputees to improve mobility.
Call to action
Want to be involved in creating cutting-edge technology to improve gait therapy? We are looking for people with a lower-limb amputation to participate in research and help create new wearable technologies for prosthetic users.
Who can participate
We are looking for unilateral lower-limb prostheses users aged 9 and up.
Funding agency
- Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC)
- Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital Foundation
What's involved
- One 2.5-hour session (weekdays and weekends possible) at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital
- During the session:
- A biofeedback system (includes sensors, vibrating motors) will be attached to your lower body
- You will be instructed to do some walking trials. Sensory feedback (auditory and vibrotactile) will be provided as part of the gait training.
- Participants and investigator will be required to wear masks, and maintain physical distancing when applicable
Interested in participating
Recruitment is ongoing until completed.
