Clinical practice guidelines
What are clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) and why are they important?
Providing our clients with the best possible care is a priority at Holland Bloorview. Using research evidence combined with clinical expertise is important in helping health care professionals meet the individual needs of our clients. Taking an evidence-informed approach to clinical decision making is essential and incorporating CPGs is one way we can achieve this.
As a lead and supporter of CPG development and implementation, Evidence to Care has defined the term ‘clinical practice guidelines’ for organizational policy use at Holland Bloorview:
Clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) are systematically developed evidence-based recommendations* which inform and guide the clinical practice of health care professionals in specific circumstances.
(*Recommendations are developed using a rigorous development and review process, incorporating primary research through systematic reviews and expert opinion through consensus to promote health care best practice.)
