Promoting social inclusion experiences in recreation settings for children with disabilities through the arts
This study explores the perspectives of children with and without disabilities on their social inclusion experiences in the Spiral Garden program at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital.
Participate in this study
Is your child participating in the Spiral Garden program? Consider having your child share their experiences in this study about how their experience in the program influences their sense of belonging, attitude toward disability and social skills.
Who can participate
We are looking for:
- Children registered in the Spiral Garden program during the summer 2016 who are between the ages of 8 and 18 Children who can comprehend in English verbally or with an assistive device
- Children who can to express their thoughts and feelings about interactions and friendship with peers
- Children who would like to express their thoughts and feelings about being accepted by other children in the Spiral Garden program
The study involves two interviews and three observational periods in the Spiral Garden program.
Each child/participant will complete two interviews. Each child/participant will be observed for two hours on three occasions during their participation in the Spiral Garden program. Interviews will be conducted on site and will receive a parking pass.
