What is the definition of an International Client?
An International Client at Holland Bloorview is defined as a child between the ages of 0 and 18 who permanently resides outside of Canada and has traveled to Toronto to receive an assessment/ consultation and/or treatment at Holland Bloorview and intends to return to their country of residence once he/she is discharged from Holland Bloorview.
What is the role of the ICS?
The International Client Service (ICS) provides a centralized office for international clients and their families to access programs and services at Holland Bloorview. We respond to inquiries, assist in the application process and appointment booking.
How can I pay for my medical care?
International clients pay for their treatment in one of these ways:
- Insurance coverage
- Self-payment by credit card
- Support from a home government or embassy
If my child is accepted to the program, when can I pay for their treatment?
Once accepted for treatment through the ICS, you will be provided with an estimate for services. The service estimate value must be paid in full or we must receive a letter of guarantee from your insurance company or embassy. Payment must be received before an appointment for services can be booked.
How long does it take for my application to be reviewed?
The ICS office reviews each case individually and will be in contact with you as soon as a decision has been made.

- Physician letter of referral
Do I need to complete the application in English?
Yes. All documents provided to our office must be in English. You are responsible for having the appropriate documents translated to English.
I need a visa to enter Canada. Can your office assist with this?
Yes. Once the client has been accepted for treatment we can provide you with a letter indicating that they will be an international client and that they will require family support (1 caregiver) during their stay.
What happens after my child is discharged?
The International Client Service provides assistance with a range issues after your child has been discharged. Please contact us for more information.
What are your business hours?
The ICS office is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time except on statutory holidays.
